Car reamers are s heavy-duty reamers similar to bridge reamers, but they are designed with a shorter flute for access to smaller areas. They are used for construction and repairing offset holes. They are typically tapered at the point.

Morse tapers refer to a a series of shanks that taper at the end so they can be mounted onto the spindle of a drill press or lathe. They can be quickly removed during an operation. The taper is approcimatly 5/8 inches per foot.

Spiral flute reamers are used in blind and through-hole operations. They are used to bridge interrupted cuts.

High speed steel (HSS) provides good wear resistance and can be used in general purpose applications for both ferrous and nonferrous materials.
